Understanding Dimension Scaling
One area that often causes confusion is dimension scaling.
Historically, AutoCAD users created dimensions directly in Model Space and scaled them manually to match the intended plotting scale. Today, most users take advantage of Annotative Dimensions, which automatically adjust to suit different viewport scales.
Annotative dimensions provide several advantages:
- One dimension works across multiple viewport scales.
- Less manual scaling is required.
- Drawings are easier to maintain.
- Annotation remains consistent throughout the project.

- 2 – Creates fully associative dimensions that update automatically when geometry changes
For almost every modern workflow, DIMASSOC should be set to 2.
This ensures that if you stretch, move or modify an object, the dimensions update automatically, helping to maintain accuracy throughout the design process
