CREO Engineering Solutions specialise in the design, development, prototyping and manufacture of precision engineered components and equipment. Learn how the SOLIDWORKS Startups Program helped CREO Engineering improve speed to market during a global pandemic.

“CREO Engineering started as a design consultancy with prototyping and machining capabilities. We started working with Caledonia Inspection Services creating bespoke scanning equipment for nondestructive testing. We now have a product range that can be used across a wide range of industrial applications.

Our products are compact, flexible, and easy to use. They are modular build allowing several inspections to be done with the same base unit. Often the user is reaching the area to be inspected by rope access, therefore, the scanners must be easy to attach. There can also be restricted access so this can require some innovative thinking on a suitable solution.

There are many challenges involved in designing these products but the ability to show 3D visuals to the client is brilliant, we can iron out any potential issues at the design stage. Also, to be able to print 3D parts for prototyping is a huge benefit that would not be possible in 2D drafting. We have also used SOLIDWORKS to make molds using the cavity feature. This has been fantastic as we have been able to produce serviceable parts in rubber. These parts can often improve the feel of a mechanism and simplify assemblies for example, removing the need for springs or hinges. We have also used SOLIDWORKS to produce 3D renders for marketing purposes.

Joining the SOLIDWORKS Startup program couldn’t have been easier. I contacted TMS enquiring about SOLIDWORKS and explained that I was setting up a new company and as a result money and resources were limited. I was delighted when they told me about the Startup Program and how it could help overcome those obstacles. Having SOLIDWORKS from day one improved speed to market, as instead of designing in 2D then moving to 3D, I was able to design in 3D straightaway. The additional benefit of being able to access licenses from home during the pandemic meant no time was lost. With the aid of a 3D printer, I was able to start producing prototype parts.

The SOLIDWORKS Startups program is an invaluable service, resources are in short supply for any new business and the startup program removes one of these worries!”
